THE SIGNS
Standing up, they are posing in front of the artist. Gestures, taken from the universal sign language, are feeding a vocabulary of economic insecurity and aimlessness : poverty, isolation, welfare, etc…
These people, jobless and concerned by exclusion risk, have been requested by the artist to express the silence of their troubles.
By providing a passionate interest to the more humble people, the painting of hobos and jobless is close to the middle age icons in a more modern hieratic approach such as the trampled Christ from Fra Angelico.
Beneath these still gesture characters lie a deeply urgent situation.
